There were two big events for the Miami University Evans Scholars during first semester. Mom's Weekend, which came earlier in the year, was hosted October 21-22. The weekend started off with a trip to Butterfield Farms, a local farm in the Oxford area that hosts tractor rides, sells home-cooked food and a tour of their animals. Everyone who went on the trip with their moms said that the off-campus adventure was a blast! After the farm, some people stayed in the area to enjoy the weather, while others decided to head back to the Scholarship House. Eventually the late afternoon rolled around and the Scholars went with their moms to Fiesta Chara, a local Mexican eatery in Oxford. Upon finishing meals, everyone headed to the Miami hockey game to cap off the night.
The other fun event that occurred recently for the Scholars in Oxford was a celebration of Thanksgiving. On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, after a friendly game of football, Scholars went shopping and cooked up ribs, chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, broccoli, rolls and pies. When 5:30 arrived, it was time to feast. Everyone in the chapter enjoyed the meal, and it was great to hang out with everyone before leaving for break.
