The Miami University Evans Scholarship Chapter was founded in 1974. The Scholarship House was purchased from the ZBT fraternity, and was dedicated on Oct. 19, with 20 upperclassmen and 18 New Scholars living in the house.
On Oct. 9, 1998, a rededication ceremony was held to recognize major renovation work.
In 2014, Miami Evans Alumni celebrated the 40th anniversary of their chapter and a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Evans Scholarship House was held. The new state-of-the-art facility will provide coed living accommodations for the first time. It is expected to open in 2016.
The Miami Evans Scholars Chapter currently has 60 members. Many of the traditions that were started back in 1974, still live on within our chapter. This can be seen by looking through our house yearbooks, which have been created annually since 1978. While many old traditions live on, we strive to create new traditions yearly that can be passed on to future generations of Miami Evans Scholars.
Relationships have always been strong between Alumni and current Scholars at Miami University. This relationship was strengthened by our former Faculty Advisor Chuck Knepfle (Mia. '91). We also have a strong relationship with our Faculty Advisor Bill Shawver, who works to build relationships within the Scholarship House.
With strong leadership from inside the house, a great faculty advisor and fantastic Alumni support from respected past Scholars such as Tom Binzer (Mia. '77), the success and tradition of the Miami University Evans Scholars will continue to grow into the future.
